UFOs or WIPs

I

I doubt that I am the only one with so many unfinished works of art that it’s hard to think of finishing all of them before starting a new project. I get requests for a piece, or there’s an auction that needs a donation, or an idea that needs to be executed immediately, so I have to put a current Work In Progress aside. Then the WIP becomes a UFO, or Unfinished Object, and they add up!

Summer is such a busy time for me: I am an avid hiker and gardener. My happy place is on the trail in the mountains here. I am so blessed to live in Colorado, where beautiful landscapes are in abundance. If you follow me on FB or IG you will see all my photos (I love photography too!) of landscapes and wildflowers. This is a never ending source of inspiration for my art and my soul.

In the winter when I can’t go to the high country I can look back on my photos and relive all those beautiful hikes.

Also, much like “growing” art, I love to garden and grow flowers, veggies and greens. It’s so satisfying to grow plants, and watch them mature, much like my art quilts! I am a Colorado Master Gardener and I do volunteer work at the Colorado Center for the Blind, in their Legacy Garden. I get my hands in the dirt and help the students learn about plants and growing.

So all this takes up time in the summer, in a good way. But then my time in my studio is less than I’d like it to be. There’s only so many hours in a day! The seasons will change, snow will come to the mountains and prevent me from hiking, my garden will go to sleep and I will have an abundance of time in my studio. It all comes full circle. I would like to complete all of my UFOs or WIPs by next summer. Is that too ambitious a goal? Only time will tell……….

And here’s a celebration of the mountains:
